The field trip was very fun. We saw lots of bread being made and Perry showed us the big wood stove that they cook the bread in. He said that the woodstove could cook about 16 loaves of bread at once. He also showed us how he made the dough and he said it took a long procces to make sourdough bread.. and he also said he would get his ingredients from new denver, nelson. and he said that he was selling his sourdough bread at gaia tree, slocan valley market and the store in new denver. He also said his favriote thing about working at a bakery was it is at his house and he said he gets alot more done than he would if he worked somewere else. I thought the the feild trip was very cool. Perry showed us what he used to make his sourdough bread. He used stuff such as: A mixer - The mixer was relatively big, it had three differant setting one two and three. The next tool he used was the wood stove. The wood stove could hold about sixteen loafs of bread at a time. The wood stove didn't take too long to cook it took less then one hour. The next thing he used was his fridge Perry got the idea from a farmer he heard of in the u.s. The farmer had wanted a compressor but he didn't have the money. So what he did was put the air conditioner in a small box. That was what Perry did too. Perrys baking buissness is very successful. But bread isn't the only thing he sells he also sells stuff like : pizza, coookies, and other breads. His baking sells in places like the gaia tree (Winlaw), slocan village market(Slocan), and in new denver. I personally really like his bread and so do a lot of other people by the sounds of it. I really enjoyed our trip to weirdoughs bakery

Perry said the idea for starting Weirdoughs came to mind when he saw a sign that said make a sauna, but he thought that no one would use it so he thought of making a woodfire oven. He came up with the name Weirdoughs because his last name is Weir and he said when he was a kid his friends would call him Weirdo, and dough as in bread dough, and that's what he's baking. That's how he thought of Weirdoughs. Perry said that his buisness in doing good and he is selling bread and frozen pizza and he is starting to sell cookies. He's selling his bread at the store in Slocan and other places. He said that bread was the most popular food and he uses ingredients like water, wheat berries and other stuff. He grinds the wheat berries up with his mothers old grinder. He got his wheatberries from this farmer somewhere in Canada, and he usually buys the rest from some stores. He said his favorite thing about working at a bakery is when people buy his bread, because he knows that customers like his bread and it gives him a happy feeling. He said that the first day Weirdoughs opened he was very nervous. He does enjoy working in a bakery and it is hard sometimes because in the summer there are a lot of customers and it's very hot. The process of making bread is first you grind up the wheatberries and then you mix it with the other ingridients and put it in the big mixing pot. When it's done mixing you pour the dough into bread pans and then you put it in the fride for a day. Then the next day you take it out and put it in the woodoven. After half and hour - and hour you take it out and it's ready!

That's what Perry showed us in his bakery. We had a fun time, thanks Perry!

Its because his mom used to make sourdough and other breads and he said that they tasted really good and she made it in a wooden box/crate thingy and he prbable liked baking and the bread tasted really good when he makes it.The name came from when he was little and the kids at his school used to bully him and call him weirdo because his last name was weir.he was bugged by it then, but he isnt anymore since he's older and he thought that it would be a neat name for his bakery, but he changed it a little by calling it wierdough's and he whanted it to be a name that poeple will remember. The buisness is doing great! he says that people really enjoy the bread. he sells it in like the Nelson market and in New Denver and also right in Slocan! its the white bread, and he also said that the cookies are a little popular, but not as popular as the white bread. And i think he used wheat berries and fresh yeast. He said he gets the wheat berries from saskatchewan. he gets the yeast from i think the market.

What a wonderful learning experience! I really enjoyed reading your comments having to do with your learning experience, especially how Mr. Weir loves baking and making people joyful! The name of his business is perfect! Would any of you like to start your own business?

hello No i wouldn't want to start my own buissness. But if my sister started a buissness i'd be happy too help her for a little bit. If i did start my own buissness, it would probably be somthing some what simple like: Painter, builder (but i'd only build small stuff), a photographer, and making short films. But i'd prefer not having a buissness unless it made a lot of money.
