During several humanities classes staggered over several weeks our class has been looking at the effect of this powerful Tsunami and its connections to BC coast. Through reading, sifting through CBC online and various BC's newspaper coverage of the aftermath of the tsunami, our classes is discovering how events that happen thousands of kilometres away impact us daily. In this posts are some of their art, reflections and creative writing based on this tragic event.

On march 11, 2011 there was a tsunami in japan. An earthquake happend in the ocean wihch caused a huge tidewave this had devastating affects on the japanese people.
If i were there id probably taste garbage plastic,old food and salt.It would smell like salt water. you would probably see people drowning or stuck. people were getting hit by cars and buildings falling on you and lots more. You would see waves and people in distress. Youd hear screaming stuff crashing loud noises. You would see little japanese kids drowning. I would feel bad for them if i were there kie.

Japan Tsunami
On March 11th 2012 a huge earthquake shook Japan and triggered a tsunami. A tsunami is a huge tidal wave, and it washed over Japan. The noises during the tsunami were deafening. People were screaming, the waves were crashing and buildings were falling down. There was garbage everywhere and people were drowning in the water.
You could see destroyed cars, houses and buildings. Japanese people were running around in panic and confusion. The smell during the tsunami was disgusting. You could smell lots of saltwater and garbage. Everyone felt and tasted the gross salt water around them. Lots of people drowned.
After the tsunami the survivors felt shocked and scared. They were worried and looked desperately for their loved ones.
On March 11th 2011, a tsunami crashed over Japan, an earthquake caused it. Many Japanese saw 4-feet waves knocking over building and destroying cars. They witnessed people drowning and helicopters flying to the rescue.
They heard terrible screams for help and the waves crashing on top of them. The witnesses felt the warm salt water from the tsunami around them. The tsunami crashed through the streets, taking everything and everyone with it. People in the water tasted a big amount of salt water and garbage.
The survivors were relieved the tsunami was over but they were worried about their lost loved ones. Many were shocked and depressed after the tsunami because they lost their homes, loved ones and pets.
Tsunami in Japan
One night in Japan, March 11th, 2011, an Earthquake hit Japan. The Earthquake was the least to worry about, though. This Minor disaster only caused a deathly Tsunami to erupt. The Tsunami emerged from the water, crashing down on every thing in its reach. Buildings came tumbling down towards the pacific. The taste of salt water and the fishy smell made it even worse to bear. Friends and family of many have died in this natural disaster. Hope of ever returning the beautiful condition of their city has faded. Many mourn over their loss of relatives and their valuable things that are now sinking into the bottom of the Pacific. THIS IS SO SAD!

On march 11th 2011 a huge earthquake
Shook Japan causing a tsunami. Waves came crashing into Japan destroying
everything in its reach. The smell of garbage, decomposing animals and humans were in the air.
Houses crumbled, cars and buildings toppled the sound of people screaming in distress rang in the air.
The taste of salt water and fish whiffed around people’s heads as they ran from the waves, while people ran they touched dead fish and rubble.
I feel very sad for the people in japan. I also feel sorry and worried for the people who lost
Family and friends in the terrible disaster, and hope the Japanese will have a better warning system incase of another tsunami.

On March 11th, 2011 an earthquake in japan triggered a Tsunami.
The huge waves toppled over our land, causing buildings to crash and gasoline to poor in the water from cars and gas stations. The sound of screaming from babies to full-grown adults, ran painfully in my Ears as the tsunami flooded japan. The smell was horrible, all the garbage, animals, humans, and gas. People froze In shock, feeling like you had a Minnie heart attack you don’t know what to do at the time. Seeing people trying to swim to safety but getting pushed under water by the horrifying waves. Babies Crying, people shouting to find there loves ones, trees hitting the water all ran through my ears as The now polluted black water crashed through Japan. As I pray for all the lost ones, I think of how horrible it must be to loose your Mother, or father, brother or sister, and be alone in your now crushed home. In the end, if you survived, you sit there waiting, trying to find your loved ones, not knowing if they are ok or not.

Nine months after the tsunami,in Tofino beachcombers noticed a significant uptick in debris of Japanese origin, things were found such as a baby’s sock, a tooth brush and lumber with the Japanese sign on it. B.C. has a jurisdiction over hazard bodies there is a worry that soon we will be finding body parts or whole bodies.
If people come upon bodies treat them carefully and with respect.
Scientists say that the debris will effect the fish and plants in the ocean. I think that the debris will hopefully stop polluting the B.C. shores.

On March 11th 2011, a tsunami happened in Japan. Now debris from the tsunami is floating into B.C. shores. On April 18th, a man named Peter Mark, found a motorcycle from Japan. He found the motorcycle on Graham Island. Other people found water bottles, a soccer ball and even a baby sock. I hope that the people who lost these things gets them back.
There was a huge earthquake in Japan that triggered a tsunami. The tsunami was on March 11th, 2011 just a year ago. It was suprising when debris started washing up on B.Cs shores. Mainly Tofino and Vancouver Island. The debris include items such as lots of lunber with japanese export stamps on them, and tons and tons of garbage. Some personal items were found aswell such as a babys sock, a toothbrush and several water bottles. The mayor of Tofino, Perry Schmunk declared that all the valuable items found on Tofinos beaches would be shown on a website. He hopes that some japanese people can get their special stuff back.

Tsunami In Japan
On march 11th 2011, a tsunami hit Japan. The Japanese were sad to see the tsunami hit. The
tsunami was caused by a earthquake. It smelled like garbage and died fish. It smelled so gross.
It filled the air, with the gross smell.
It tasted like the air did , like garbage, died fish and salt. You can hare the screaming of
people calling for help. Every were there was water crashing. A house crashed with
all the stuff falling out of the house. There was so many loud noise. It was crazy.
You can see the all the water with garbage, wood, and crushed body’s in it.
People in distress. Some would be filming the water. You would to help
People but you would die too. After the tsunami you would feel homeless,
Lonely, worried and scared for life. That is what I think about the tsunami.
This Affects us in a big way. And not only Canada will have to deal with this problem,but other countrys that are along the coast. This is also affecting the people that are eating the fish and are drinking the water. Because of the Nuclear reactors having partial meltdowns and blowing up, it has polluted the water we have. Its only a matter of time before this polluted water is exposed to the the worlds water all around.Japan is facing years of repair. Later, in Tofino, some residents have found some personal items, believed to be of Japan origin. Then, in 2012, they found a Harley-Davidson motorbike on the shores of British Columbia.This isnt good for anyone.

It was a hot sunny day i was with my mom Rose Scarlet Dane and my dad Jack Gordon Dane.We lived in a house with woden walls ,no chimney,three chiars,two beds,one bath room and sadly no couch
I was sitting down on my steps when i heard a girl about 10 scream for help "help help a earth quake". she ran by with a hurt leg. My mom and dad ran outside and said!"hurry get inside!" so i went inside and wen't under my bed. But it wasn't over. A tsunami came.Water was going through the cracks of my house.
Luckily we had a way to get to my roof. First came my mom,then my dad, then i wen't calling my dog but my dog didn't come, so i went back down and my dog kept on going under. Then my dog didn't come up i cryed out,still nothing. Then my mom and dad came down. My mom holded me and my dad said "it's going to be ok." So we wen't back on the roof.
We look out and the water has rised garbage was everywhere. My dad walked forward and sliped and hit his head and wasn't comeing up. We cryed and waited for 1 hour. Then a helicopter came and landed on are roof and we were saved.
How Tsunamis affect B.C.
This is how tsunamis affect B.C. first you will see garbage come to the shore but 95% will not comer to the sore. If you go the beach and watch the sunset you will not see a big pill of debris in the way of the sunset. Because it comes in small pills. All the people that find stuff that they think is important they will trace back to they owners. But we shod not pick it up because of radiation in the garbage that is what scientists thick, but they do not now for sure but they won’t to be safe. This is very bad for the immurement and the fish in the ocean. An they are saying that the place to put the garbage would be form Canada to Mexico maybe a little under, and half as long. This is how the tsunami from japan and other places affect B.C.
